Voxhub wins Best UK Business ITSP for SMEs at the 2012 ITSPA Awards

22/03/2012

In an exciting event held at the House of Commons, Voxhub won the Best Business ITSP (SME) Award. With seven excellent finalists in this most hotly contested of categories, we were extremely pleased to be recognised for the quality of our service and all of the hard work that our team have done for our customers.

This award comes at a time when we are broadening our service with new features and exciting developments. Up until the end of 2011 our focus has been on developing a high quality service, purpose built for Internet Telephony. This has not been a small undertaking and we have grown from modest begginnings in 2004 to become a fully fledged public telephony provider with customers that trust us to deliver an essential service for their business.

This year we started with a major rebranding exercise and winning the ITSPA award will allow us to drive further awareness of who we are and what we are passionate about every day. For 2012 we will also be focused on launching some really exciting new services that will be refinements of our existing enterprise service plus some new applications that will be aimed at the mass business market.

Thanks to everyone that helps us operate our business, our team, business partners, suppliers and of course our customers.

Moving away from 0845 and 0870 numbers

15/02/2012

Hopefully you have read our last post on how 0845 and 0870 numbers are not good for business.

So what is the alternative and how can you move away from your existing 08 numbers?

If you have an 0845 or 0870 number then there is a corresponding 0345 and 0370 number that should be reserved for your use. I say “should” since it is the company that issued your 08 number originally that has the corresponding 03 matching equivalent. If you were issued an 0845 number by Voxhub then we have kept the 03 safe for you.

The 0345 or 0370 number will only be one digit different, as it simply replaces the 08 with 03,  so 0845 1234567 would mean you have 0345 1234567 reserved for you.

So what can you do? It all depends on where your 08 number originally came from:

1) If you were issued an 0845 number by Voxhub:

As a help to move from 0845 we will provide you the corresponding 0345 number that is reserved for you at a nominal cost of just 50p per month.

If you do not want an 03 number we can provide you with normal geographic number (01, 02) instead at no charge.

The 08 numbers will continue to operate so that you can transition customers to a cheaper way of contacting you.

2) If you were issued an 0845 number by another provider:

Email our sales team at support@voxhub.com and tell them the number that you would like to port to your Voxhub service and we will check to see if we can port it for you. If we can, we will let you know the process, if we can’t we will be happy to find a new 03 number for you.

3) Even if you don’t have an 08 number and would just like a completely new 01, 02 or 03 number for your business, contact Voxhub sales on 020 30 30 30 30 or sales@voxhub.com and we will get straight on it.

Time to get rid of your 08evil numbers

06/02/2012

There is no better way to say ‘don’t call me’ to your customers than making them call an 08evil number. This includes 0845, 0844, 0870 and 0871 numbers, which if you haven’t guessed we prefer to call 08evil numbers or ‘Devil Numbers’. 0800 and 0808 numbers were not initially evil but their benefits have been greatly erroded by mobile companies charging for calls.

For a while now we have stopped issuing 08evil numbers to our customers. These numbers were good back in 2001 when you wanted to have a number that wasn’t tied to a particular location. But with services like Voxhub based on VoIP there is no current benefit or need to have an 08evil number, in fact there are now more negatives, so that means you should definitely steer clear.

Things you should know about 08evil numbers:

  • Callers pay extortionate costs to call those numbers from mobiles, from 10p to 75p per minute.
  • Consumer confidence is low, they don’t like calling them.
  • 03 numbers provide a great alternative.

If I haven’t already given you enough reason to transition from 08evil numbers, you should consider that Ofcom has completed the initial consultation into non-geographic numbers and the findings were not good.

Ofcom Simplifying Non-Geographic numbers

You can read it for yourself, but whilst the possible changes are not 100% clear at the moment the chances are that things are going to change.

The consultation hints at the following. If you have an 08evil number:

  • You will most likely have to pay more to operate it in the future.
  • People will probably not want to call you!
  • You should use an 03 number.

The biggest resistance to change  in the market, is amongst the providers that rely on the revenue from 08evil numbers. Whilst we sympathise with them, this is no reason to continue with something that is clearly not working.

In one of our next posts we will be detail our suggestions on moving away from 08evil numbers, but if you haven’t guessed from our previous points, one strategy is to get an 03 number.

If you have been affected by anything you have read in this post, please call 020 3030 3030.

Mobile Net Neutrality: A Future Concern?

16/12/2011

A recent ITSPA study that has investigated the issue of Voip blocking on mobile networks reveals that consumers are unlikely to be able to use Voip over 3g networks should they try.

Voxhub doesn’t actually recommend using 3g for Voip since it is hard achieve a consistent quality and doesn’t work over nearly all providers!

So why should we be concerned?

It is the future higher speed mobile networks, that are on the way next year, that we are worried about.

It its expected that mobile networks will be able to offer a viable alternative to fixed broadband with the advent of LTE or 4g as it is better known.

When this happens you should expect to be able to use any service not just what the mobile companies want you to use. Not only as a matter of principal but also because legally ISP’s should follow European directives governing Net Neutrality.

You may be thinking that surely the mobile companies will follow the law?

Well, this its not clear at the moment. After all they do block services at the moment and are getting away with it!

So today a bunch of us are meeting Ofcom for an initial discussion. Four Members of the ITSPA council that includes BT, Vonage, Coms and us.

Hopefully, this will all work itself out. After all should Net neutrality not be a condition when the spectrum is auctioned in 2012?

New Brand look for Voxhub

16/12/2011

December is a busy month for us right up until Christmas eve. Then it goes quiet.

The time until New Year will be spent with festivities but we also intend to change over to our new Brand image.

This blog has some of the new look right now in preparation. We wanted to do a quick flick of the switch and change but it isn’t practical. So if you are reading this before 2012 then it looks different to our Website. Which its probably a brand crime or some similar marketing offence!
